Sterling SMG (L2A3)

My attempt at modelling the L2A3 sterling sub machine gun previously used by the British army.

Mostly for created for personal practice.
27k verts - 52k Tris
One 4k texture set
I saw the complex shape of the barrel as challenge to overcome and good practice for modelling cylindrical shapes. Initially I attempted a Boolean and clean up work flow. I was unhappy with the un-even edge flow, which gave rise to shading errors. Ended up making a small section of the pattern and duplicating it and using a revolving deformer to create the cylinder shape nice and evenly.

Made a simple rig for animating in maya, It features a folding stock, removeable magazine, moving trigger, safety switch, slide and sight. Also added limitations to the moving parts to avoid clipping and make it easier to animate.
